Experience

Find out a little about the experience I’ve had thus far in my career.

A Little About Me

I’m a New Jersey native, born and raised in the Garden State. A love of filmmaking and news as a kid led me to Syracuse University, pursuing a degree in broadcasting. Working within both the journalism school and Citrus TV, the student-run campus news station, has allowed me to grow and improve as a storyteller and multi-media journalist.

The most practical aspect of my broadcasting experience thus far has been learning the craft of “one-man-banding.” 90 percent of my résumé reel features ‘one-man-band’ style reporting (See the entire reel here). Shooting, writing, and editing your own stories is a concept increasingly

prevalent in newsrooms, a development I couldn’t be happier about. I love the inherent creativity in shooting and editing. Writing is always the reporter’s forte, but adding the other two elements allows complete ownership of a story. It’s exciting and challenging, and something I look forward to every time I report.

As a supplement to my broadcast degree, I pursued a degree in Spanish. During the spring of 2009 I spent a semester in Spain, gaining valuable knowledge about life, living abroad, and foreign news. I also spent time perfecting my Spanish; although I can’t claim complete fluency, I am extremely proficient. Viva España!

Internships and local reporting

I’ve dedicated a majority of my time to CitrusTV, an entirely student-run, on-campus news station. We report on the news that matters to the entire University community. We run our station as a professional one, producing three half-hour newscasts per week. All of our content goes out live on a local channel and the station’s Web site. I have had extensive experience in everything from ‘one-man-band’ reporting, to anchoring, to producing.

My internship experience has been wide-ranging, including time spent at both the network and local levels. During the summer of 2009, I had the

unique opportunity and privilege to intern with 60 Minutes at CBS News. Long days spent researching facts and figures that help make the show so credible was extremely enriching. I received career advice from some personal role models, and was given an insightful glimpse into the world of network news.

Equally rewarding have been my experiences at local news outlets, including WBNG-TV Action News in Binghamton, New York and WOR 710AM Radio in New York City. Working in the newsrooms at both stations gave me an idea of the fast-paced environment that defines local news. The ability to work with reporters, including shooting video at WBNG, cemented my passion for this business.
